New Zealand Law Awards

The Zone team travelled to Auckland on 10th November to attend the 2022 New Zealand Law Awards where we were an excellence awardee and finalist in the IP Law Firm of the Year section.

We would like to congratulate all the other finalists as well as thank our incredible clients for their ongoing support.

INTA Leadership Meeting Miami 2022

Theodore was delighted to attend the International Trademark Association leadership meeting held in Miami last month.
It was a very busy week of strengthening connections and making new friends.

Theodore holds a position on the non-traditional marks leadership committee and Christopher Sheehan on the young practitioners leadership committee.

Trusts

IRD recently released new reporting obligations for trusts in New Zealand depending on the activities they undertake. These obligations increase the importance of accurate record keeping by trustees amongst other things.

These changes along with the recently updated trust legislation in New Zealand (Trusts Act 2019) mean now is a good time to review your trust and circumstances if you haven’t already. For example, as many family trust deeds were drafted some years ago, they may require updating to be fit for today’s requirements. It is also important trustees are aware of their obligations such as the disclosure of certain information to trust beneficiaries.

If you would like to review matters in connection with your trust and/or your obligations as a trustee, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our property team at Zone will be happy to help.
